What is the best way to get a song copyrighted?

It's easy.  Download the form from the copyright office website.  and send it in with a cassette (probably CD now) recording and the filing fee.  In about 6 months you'll receive in the mail an officially stamped copyright.

i know this is an old thread but i checked it out and here anyway its free to copyright something u but the cd in a sealed envelope, post it to yourself making sure theres a visible post mark and when u recieve it store it as it must remain un opened and (in ireland at least) it will stand up in a court of law

This doesn't really protect it well.  It does somethging but not enough for a court proceeding.
