We wondered if you recieve any pro-tools certifications or if you know where we might be able to? Also, where is a good place to start if you want in the business education wise. Can you bypass a 2 or 4 year degree and it still be credible...thanks for any info

I believe that you can only be PT certified by Digidesign.

Digidesign has a series of certificates called things like operator, master etc.  This is training on the mechanics of Pro Tools. Beyond knowing the mechanics, you need to learn audio recording and production techniques to be effective.

RID does not participate in the Digidesign training system.  We issue competency certificates in Associate Recording Engineer/Producer, Music Producer and Recording Engineer.  Keep in mind that these say that you have a basic starting competency in these areas - You will need to add experience to become fully competent.

Students learn Pro Tools in the program but, again, we are not trying to make you an just expert in the mechanics.  For instance, you won't find a music theory class in a Digidesign certificate but you will go though a basic one at RID, because a basic understanding of this is important to someone trying to record and produce.  You won't find a Music Business Course in the Digidesign certificate program but you'll learn the basics of this at RID (copyrights, publishing, recording contracts, etc.) because this basic knowledge is very important to a producer.

Go to www.recordinginstitute.com and order a catalog for more info.
