Dino Ziogas:
You know, the reason there's distortion/harshness on my master was because I did those manual rides by selecting the transient on the editor and reducing the gain. On mix programme material this is not a sound approach as it seems [being an analog guy, I thought it would sound transparent]. I did nothing else to affect the transients...  ;D

Nice experience btw and it doesn't matter that it's a no contest.

Generally this is not a bad approach but I think that the hyped EQ in the mix contributed big time.  Also this was recorded on an ADAT which never really sounds clean.  I don't know if the ADAT problem is in the converters or the circuits but remember that 16 bit was the big standard back then.  The Tascam DA-88 was what we went with and it was SO much better sounding, even at 16 bit.

What I heard was accented 5K range (verified by spectrum anal) which was hyping the distortion on instruments - reducing this and then increasing 10 K gave same amount of highs, less "distortion" on the horns/snare and a more natural sound on the cymbals.  I'm going to post my master within the hour so you can read the description of processing.

Take Care

Silent Bob:
Since Py was the winner of the mixing contest, I just kept the one downloaded from his site for the mixing contest and didn't bother to download it again from the RW server.  I just got the one linked in your site now and compared it.  I don't know what happened, but apparently, the one everybody else mastered was oldbobd's!

I suppose in all fairness, I must concede, but I wonder how the "non-band approved" mix got uploaded.

I would guess (99% certain) I uploaded the wrong one - I'll be more careful next time  :-[

To make matters worse - I'm having difficulty with my monitoring and won't be submitting my master.
