What I liked:
REAL TIME MIXING!!! Unlike CEP, SF Vegas Pro has real time mixing. You can assign DX effects or Sonic Foundry's proprietary plug in effects to individual tracks or to the master bus(s). The interface is pretty simple and very similar to Acid. No fancy on screen mixers or faders. Each track has a fader for level and pan next to the wave form. Very good use of space. The explorer window is great for importing waves. The metering is next to the channel fader and is adjustable. Routing options are awesome. You can easily choose where you want the ins/outs of each track and effects. Another feature I liked was it's ability to support different sample size and rates all on the same track. Windows 98 dual monitor support. AVI and QT support.. it not only syncs to AVI's, but you can write to them as well.
What I didn't:
No editor. Which is fine by me. Make your product good at one thing vs. crappy at lots of things. However, it does allow an internal link to an editor of your choice (CEP in my case). The volume and pan envelopes belong to the track and not the wave form. In other words, if you move the track, the envelope stays put and is out of context. Apparently that was a conscious decision. Rendering (mixing down to a new wave file) seems to take quite a while.
User Tips:
Don't be turned off by the simple interface. It's very functional. Much more functional than any other multitrack software I have tried. If you do any video editing on the PC, you'll love this program. Much more control and features than the audio section of Adobe Premier.
